The System Engineer primary responsibility is to lead or act as a key technical resource on multiple IT infrastructure projects simultaneously in a variety of small and midsize business IT environments. A qualified engineer will be self-motivated, disciplined and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
Responsibilities:
Act as a primary technical lead or subject matter expert on various projects for our customers. Work with Project Manager to establish project plans and ensure smooth project implementation. Provide thorough documentation at the completion of projects.
Act as a top tier technical support resource for technicians working for our helpdesk or for clients with internal IT resources.
Work with the Sales team and the Director of Technology to assess potential clients and design project quotes.
The engineer is required to have a high level of competence in the following areas:
Exchange and other email migrations. Specifically migrating to Exchange 2007/2010 environments. Experience with highly available Exchange configurations, such as SCR and DAG, and migrating to hosted email solutions such as Google Apps is also desired.
Active Directory design, migration and management including use of Group Policies. This includes both upgrading Active Directory and establishing new Active Directory domains.
High level knowledge of advanced networking. This includes routing, firewalls and advanced switching concepts such as VLANs, trunking, Qos, and Spanning Tree. Strong understanding of key network services such as DNS and DHCP is also required.
Data protection of large amounts of data (2TB+) in an enterprise or business environment. Specifically, experience with Symantec Backup Exec and similar software to backup data to disk and tape libraries.
Server Virtualization technologies. Experience deploying or managing VMware vSphere environments including working with HA/DRS clusters and shared storage (iSCSI or FC SANs). Experience with Hyper-V or Xen virtualization clustering will also be considered.
An ideal candidate would also have experience in the following areas:
- Windows Server SBS installation, migration and support.
- Experience with Microsoft Terminal Services. Preferably in cluster or farm configurations. Similar Citrix experience will also be considered.
- Microsoft SQL Server installation, database migration and management.
- VoIP & Digital phone system installation and support. (Avaya IP Office preferred)
Experience:
5+ years of experience.
Certifications:
MCITP, MCSE, VMware VCP certifications desired, but not required with relevant experience.
Education:
Relevant degrees valued but not required.
